There will be no drop the week of October 17th.
Due to limited supply since losing Dora, one of our mama cows we will have a waitlist from now on. For any existing members that have had milk we will confirm each week if a jar will be available for you, if you do not hear from us that means there is not a jar for you to pick up that week.
We will plan the winter milking by ear. If it becomes too challenging we will need to pause the milk membership and resume when the weather improves.
Currently we have no extra shares available however you may contact us to get on our waitlist.
For existing members if you do not get a message from us to confirm you are getting milk that week that means we do not have milk available for you that week. Technically membership is a weekly renewal so on the weeks your membership is not renewed whether by you or by us it means that week you are not technically an active member, but on different week when you do get milk that means your membership is reactivated for that week. We will do out best to reach out once supply increases but we don’t know when that will be. We have decided for the time being not to get another cow which means we have limited supply. Some previous members are now waitlisted since we do not even have enough for all that were getting milk. We appreciate your patience as we navigate having a dairy on our homestead and sharing this resource with the members.

We had a tragedy on September 6th. One of our mama cows, Dora got extreme bloat overnight after a few hours of grazing in the evening. She must’ve eaten something bad or overeaten but it was only a few hours. We woke up to the emergency and tried everything we could think of but she was already gone. We still tried anyway. I think we could’ve saved her had we discovered the bloat earlier. We sleep with the windows open, there was no mooing or anything that would clue us in. She had been out grazing before and in the evening so it seems so strange. She was more than a cow, she was our fuzzy friend. We’re heart broken. We buried her under our greenhouse and gave her a little ceremony and said our good byes. We pledged to keep her baby and give her a good life. Fortunately we have another mama cow that she nurses off of. We were still in shock for the first few days that she was really gone but as the dust settles we are letting members know.
We have less milk production as a result and furthermore we got her baby, (her name is Pineapple) to take care of. So she is needing the milk in order to grow and thrive. We will still have milk shares but the supply is more limited now so thank you for your patience and understanding ahead of time.
Some have asked if we are going to get another milk cow. Emotionally no cow can replace Dora. Financially it was a big hit for us. That being said we are looking into the possibility.
Dora was our “cover girl” so many of you have seen her image on our business cards and signs. She was so beautiful. But after having her first baby she seemed compromised. She was a 2 year old Brown Swiss that was painted which is quite rare for a Brown Swiss. She was a sweet and curious heifer always ready for treats and a head scratch. She was quick to learn and knew the routine well. She was often ready at the gate for a tasty treat. Funny quirk she didn’t like fresh fruit but if you let orange peels dry and get crunchy she would come searching your hand for this favorite of hers.
She was a good mama and will be missed.
We want to thank the members and community for being supportive during our grief. I’m touched by how many of you have shared kind words that was balm to my achy heart ❤️.
