Well it was good enough for grandpa, it’s good enough for me. But also there are so many reason on why raw milk as in real milk is beneficial. Back in the day milk was just called milk. It came fresh from the cows and into our kitchens with little to no processing in between. It was all “raw” milk but it wasn’t given this special label. With commercialization and pasteurization milk now comes in many different categories and different labels these days from pasteurized, homogenized, or skim or whole just to name a few. But original milk was raw milk. It was nutritious and supportive of health.
But wait, I’ve been told milk is inflammatory? Or maybe you haven’t but it is has been said that milk is inflammatory in some circles in the medical industry. This is true of most commercial milk where the cows are in feed lots, given grain instead of grass, confined and given a slew of pharmaceuticals to keep production up. In addition the milk is treated with heat to pasteurize the milk. The so called purpose of this is to kill off any harmful bacteria which may be true but it also kills off all the beneficial bacteria. With clean and sanitary practices raw milk is not only safe to consume but provides all of these beneficial bacteria to support your microbiome, which is a complex ecosystem of micro-fauna (tiny microscopic living creatures). There are also many beneficial enzymes in raw milk that are kept active when consumed raw. Many of these include enzymes to help digest the milk proteins itself, so raw milk is more easily digested. High heat will destroy these enzymes, what’s worse is not only is the enzyme not beneficial anymore in many cases it becomes altered to the point of becoming detrimental to health. So yes your typical commercial milk may be inflammatory but raw milk is just the opposite. Loaded with beneficial bacteria and active enzymes. Milk is the source of life for little baby calves, we are so fortunate that they make plenty to share with us as well.
In many states you can simply purchase raw milk however as government has allowed itself to expand while we were asleep at the watch, it is “illegal” in some states. If you are in the Southern Colorado region you may consider becoming a private member of our unincorporated association where you can get a milk share (click here for more details).
